For others who care

The Arc is a peerless advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), preserving and protecting their fundamental rights through advocacy and action in support of legislation for civil rights, employment, housing and supports.

We connect people with disabilities, their families, professionals and others (like you!) to create hope, growth and change. This is your chance to join us as an advocate, not only for the person you know, but for millions of people living with I/DD. We’ll work with you to make a difference with a clear, strong, collective voice.

The Arc works at the federal and state level to educate policymakers of the vast unmet needs of people with disabilities. We can mobilize our over 730 chapters, affiliates, self-advocates, families and other supporters to be active players in creating and changing public policy. No other organization servicing people with I/DD come close in terms of the breadth and depth of The Arc’s reach into local communities.

As you probably know, many of your constituents are either individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability (I/DD) or know someone who is living with I/DD. You have an opportunity to join with us now to help secure full participation and inclusion for people with I/DD, and we’re glad you’re here!

Your goal is to give every child the opportunity of an education. That’s our goal as well. Our position is that school age children with intellectual and developmental disabilities are entitled to a free, appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. They should be integrated in the general education classroom with the supports needed for them to be successful.

To make that happen, The Arc understands that you need support as an educator and as a valuable part of the team of parents, family members, friends, professionals and self-advocates all working together to make the most of any educational opportunity available to children with I/DD.

We can help you help your students by providing you with information on diagnoses and public policies related to I/DD. We are the nation’s leading advocate for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families and the premier provider of the supports and services for your students with I/DD.
