Advocacy

Promoting and protecting the civil rights of the estimated 27,000 Delawareans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) is what drives The Arc of Delaware. By providing a voice at the state and local legislative levels, we champion the policies, services and funding needed to secure civil rights in housing, employment, health care, education, criminal justice, accessibility and more. We work closely with community leaders and influencers, the media and other agencies to foster respect, raise awareness and remove attitudinal barriers to full community inclusion and acceptance of people with I/DD.

For 2019, The Arc of Delaware Public Policy Committee has identified the following Legislative Priorities:

  1. The Delaware Division of Developmental Disabilities Services (DDDS) needs the funding necessary to fulfill the plan to fully fund services over the next 3 years through the Michael McNesby Act.
  2. The Arc of Delaware supports the creation of a Standard Occupation Code for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) serving persons with I/DD.

Details are available in theĀ 2019 Legislative PrioritiesĀ brochure.

The Public Policy Committee welcomes volunteers who want to get involved and make a difference. Please call 302-996-9400 for more information.
