The Mid-Del Chapter

Mid-Del Chapter of The Arc

About the Mid-Del Chapter

The Mid-Del Chapter of The Arc of Delaware was established in 1956 by parents from the Kent County area. Over the years the chapter has continued to grow in order to meet the needs of individuals with cognitive disabilities and their families.

The chapter provides support to people with cognitive disabilities in Kent and Sussex Counties. The chapter has an active membership and holds monthly dances for individuals with cognitive disabilities through a grant from the Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with Cognitive Disabilities and other local organizations. The Mid-Del Chapter also has an active Delaware People First group, a self-advocacy organization for adults with cognitive disabilities that meets once per month to learn about issues affecting persons with disabilities and to work on those issues.

The Mid-Del Chapter of The Arc is located in the Wesley Church's Education Building in Dover, Delaware For more information, call The Arc's Mid-Del office at 302-736-6140 or mail to P. O. Box 562, Dover DE 19903.

Events and Activities

Trips and other activities are scheduled throughout the year which help members grow socially and emotionally and learn to advocate for themselves and have fun. The Mid-Del Chapter also sponsors frequent support and information meetings for families and caregivers of individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities. See the events page for dates and times.

Delaware People First in Kent and Sussex counties meets the fourth Monday of each month from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.at The Arc's Mid-Del office. For more information contact the group's adviser, Carol Hall, at 302-856-6019.
