Support from Crystal Trust

Foundation supports The Arc of Delaware with funding for accessibility renovations

The Arc of Delaware was graciously awarded $87,400 by The Crystal Trust, funding renovations to eleven community group homes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The 43 residents of these homes will benefit greatly from these renovations, which will allow them to stay in their homes as they age and require more accessibility features.

As a result of improved healthcare and an overall higher standard of living, individuals with I/DD are now enjoying the same life expectancy as the general population. But, as with the rest of the aging population, medical and physical issues arise,  but may begin at an earlier age and  be more complex because of multiple types of disabilities. These renovations will improve the quality of life of the residents and increase the likelihood that they will be able to stay in their home as they grow older.

The Arc of Delaware is one of the largest providers of housing for people with disabilities in Delaware.   The Arc owns and maintains 81 group homes in all three of Delaware’s counties and 322 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live in those homes.

The Crystal Trust has supported The Arc of Delaware in the past for a variety of projects. This support has allowed The Arc to help improve, stabilize and enrich the lives of some of the most economically disadvantaged and segregated of Americans.
